HSBC BANK ARMENIA CJSC CELEBRATES
THE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
HSBC Bank Armenia cjsc joins the celebration of the United Nations’ World Environment Day (WED) on 5 June. WED is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations raises worldwide awareness of environmental issues.
In the framework of this year’s WED celebration HSBC Armenia launches a fund raising campaign dedicated to environmental issues. The bank staff will donate under the slogan “ANTI PLASTIC” and all funds raised during the one month campaign will be directed to supplement the Plastic Bag Free Communities Project initiated together with a local NGO, “Children of Armenia Fund” (COAF).
HSBC Group entities in 50 countries will be joining the WED celebration with a wide range of environmental initiatives. This year, HSBC’s global campaign entitled ‘Be Part of the Solution’ seeks to drive employees worldwide to change their behaviour and daily routines by focusing on the three themes of the campaign: “Save, Reduce and Recycle”.
The World Environment Day is celebrated by the United Nations Environmental Programme on 5 June every year since 1972. It is aimed at raising awareness of the environment and inspiring individuals to take action against imminent environmental threats. The theme for the 2009 World Environment Day is “Your Planet Needs You - Unite to Combat Climate Change”. This year’s theme reflects the urgency for countries to agree on a new deal on climate change at the climate convention meeting to be held in Copenhagen in December 2009.
